Description: A Hair drug test samples multiple hair strands for the presence of illicit drugs. Small amounts of drugs are detected and analyzed providing a level of abuse. Below are drug test kits suitable for detecting long term drug abuse use. Hair testing kits can test drug abuse for up to one year when using body hair and typically three months for head hair. Hair is a great method to test for drugs as it is simple to cut, moderately difficult to adulterate and easy to ship and store. 100 mg or a 1.5 inch sample length and approximately 150 strands, collected from the scalp, can, for most drugs, provide up to a 3 month drug history. When scalp hair is not available, an equal volume of body hair may be collected for testing.

Most drugs appear in the scalp hair 1-7 days after ingestion, and peak concentrations occur about two weeks after. Urine, on the other hand, for a drug like cocaine, only yields about 2-3 days of prior drug exposure history.
